Form: 60 Vegetarian Capsule Bottle
This product provides a reliable, concentrated source of resveratrol from Japanese Knotweed root.
Resveratrol is a polyphenol, a natural plant compound with extremely valuable antioxidant activity and
other important biochemical functions. Resveratrol is present in a wide variety of plants such as grapes,
peanuts, blueberries, and bilberries. One of the most well-known dietary sources of resveratrol is wine,
especially red wine. However, the resveratrol content can vary considerably based on the grape type,
geographic origin, fermentation process, and other factors.
• Concentrated source of resveratrol: Red wine extracts available for use in dietary supplements
provide up to 20% resveratrol content. In contrast, root extracts of Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum
cuspidatum) provide up to 50% trans-resveratrol content, the same form as found in red wine.
Trans-resveratrol appears to be the primary active form of this polyphenolic compound and is thus
the main form utilized in clinical studies. This product provides 250 mg of trans-resveratrol per
vegetarian capsule.
• Exerts tissue protective actions: Resveratrol exerts potent antioxidant activity protective against
free radicals and other oxidants such as superoxide radicals, hydrogen peroxide, singlet oxygen, and
organic radicals. Free radicals are thought to be a cause of oxidative cell damage associated with
aging and many degenerative disease processes. Resveratrol can help protect against oxidation by
chemically neutralizing these potentially harmful molecules, enabling the body to better heal and
support itself against molecular and cellular damage. In addition, studies suggest that resveratrol may
also help inhibit excess or disordered cell growth.
• Supports cardiovascular function: In addition to boosting antioxidant defenses, resveratrol has
beneficial effects on preventing lipid (fat) oxidation which helps protect cardiovascular tissues from
oxidative damage. Recent studies suggest that resveratrol may also promote nitric oxide production
and assist platelet function, thus supporting normal circulatory function and blood clotting
mechanisms.
Added benefits: Resveratrol is associated with reducing
synthesis of prostaglandin compounds that can cause
inflammation. Resveratrol may further support the body’s
ability to regulate inflammation by helping interrupt the
inflammatory process caused by the COX and 5-LOX
enzyme systems.
